Can someone identify the insect in the following pictures please?

Can someone identify this insect please? It is all over my house. Both inside and outside. It seems to like shade. It is very small. The picture on the right is against exterior lap siding. I live in a rural area in northeastern Massachusetts. My property abuts wetlands. The only other thing I can say is they may be causing damage to wood structure. If I look close at various areas of wood around the house I find tiny holes. I would say the holes are round and slightly larger than the insect it self. I did notice that after painting wood that was previously exposed they numbers are greatly reduced in that particular area. If you have any idea's please send me an email at joshua@wegrzyn.com .
